Wanna know an easier way? Just unbolt the subwoofer. Noticed a guy in a first generation LS today who locked his keys in the trunk. Locksmith was stumbled so I got my tools and took the subwoofer out. Sure enough you could see right into the trunk.

I had the guy reach through and pull the keys out and viola! Job done.

Just thought i would add that.

I proposed the subwoofer removal idea on this forum awhile back & someone had opined that it would not work.

Glad to hear he was wrong.

Update: He was not wrong you can't take out the damn bolts!!

And, yes, I have locked my keys in the trunk before.

I have a hide a key that opens my door but will not turn in the ignition.
odd I know but useful!

Wait...what do you mean the bolts arent removable? What year is your car? His was a 1994

i still say juicing the switch with some 12v+ will trigger the trunk solenoid

Yup -- you can run a jump wire(s) from the battery to juice the switch for the solenoid. Find some spare wire, and your good. That would be the easiest solution in my opinion.

Moot point now of course -- but this happens commonly so people in dire straights with this issue in the future might get some help out of this thread.

It would be great if we could get a picture of the Switch. Puredrifter -- Can you describe the location of the trunk switch? I will go rig a jumper from the battery and take a picture of it for people who get stuck with keys in the trunk in the future.

Actually it took me about 45 seconds to remove the whole assembly.

IIRC, it's a negative trigger, NOT +12V.

if its a ground-trigger then its even EASIER.

I had done this one time a few years ago except in my dads old Chevrolet blazer. we where able to get the door open and just climb into the back though.

A good trick is to keep a spare key in the hub cap or magneted to the underside of the car. i find that it works perfect.

theres a solid steel wall behind the seat so what good what that do? there isnt any big pass through.

oh, and the gas tank is between the trunk and the passenger compartment.

im tempted to pull my amp out on my 99 and see for myself if I could get in the trunk to fish room keys out.

This is hilarious because the same exact thing happened to me. My son (11) asked to borrow the keys to put his clothes in the trunk. My oldest son begged me not to because we were hundreds of miles from home and it was about 100 degrees. Despite that advice, I gave my son the keys and specifically told him to make sure he did not lock them in the trunk because I knew the other set of keys were already in there. Sure enough, he put his clothes away and dropped the second set of keys with the first then slammed the trunk shut. By a miracle we found the only locksmith in this tiny town in Minnesota, and he put his plastic wedges in the window and eventually was able to get the door open. I thought once inside we could just use the remote trunk opener to get at the keys. Wrong! As soon as the door opened the alarm went off and everthing shut down. None of the remote switches worked. No problem, the locksmith says, we will just take the back seat out. We did and of course there is no trunk access behind the seat. The alarm is going off the whole time by the way, eventually shutting itself off after many minutes. We then took the speak out of the back deck and there was about an 8 inch whole in the (steel) back deck. My oldest son is very tall and has very long arms, and it took him about 30 minutes to get his arm worked down into the trunk and eventually feel for the keys. Never lock yourself out of a Lexus.

Heh -- And listen to the older son. _- He knows what his younger brother is likely to do much better than you do. -- (This is coming from an always younger brother no matter how old you get) =)

Also carry your billfold key, and forget you have it in your wallet. When something like this happens,.. you freak out, then remember and it is worth its weight in gold.
