nothing is wrong with the car.. it is a 99 with 52 k, check engine light comes on when gas is below half.. any ideas? thanks again

Welcome to the Club. I used to have this issue when I ran my RX down in Mexico and attributed this to the bad gas there bringing contaminants into my tank. I eventually got rid of it (mostly) from running a bottle of Redline Fuel System Cleaner in my tank, but even then it popped up in successive months. I used to have to pull the battery cable to reset this issue.

Check your gas cap gasket. If it's leaking air into the tank than sometimes it'll trigger your check engine light.

That could be. Would be interesting to see the code on the CEL to see if it is in the P04XX range or is the P0171 error that is more commonly attributed to this.

This issue with the light is not something to worry about for the moment if you all you are seeing is the CEL coming on when it does and nothing else.
