Then it hit me. I wonder how it would look on my tires and how long would it last?

No but I'd think anything that stays oily, like an oil, would sling. This would likely spin off onto your paint, especially if you drove in the rain. Something that stays oily would also attract and hold dirt, dust and road grime.

Lastly, I think products designed especially for tires are the better choice. There is no way of knowing how long term use of oil will effect the tire and it's safety. I suspect that most dedicated tire dressings are much cheaper than baby oil as well. I can't think of one good reason to use baby oil in the tires.

You are kidding, right ? Any petroleum based oil would have a negative effect on the life of a rubber product. They make all kinds of oily silicone based tire products that make tires shine, but I personally dont care for that look or maintenance that goes with it.
Tried dozens of these and have found best all around performance with Zaino Z-16 Perfect Tire Gloss. Its not expensive for what you get, and does alot of good things for tires, and plastics including UV sunscreen protection. 2 coats of it and tires look great and it stays on longer than any other off the shelf brand I have tried.

I'd say stick to the recommended product...but don't overdo it either, you're likely to dry out the surface and can possibly make it more susceptible to cracks...plus some of them are really hard to clean once a lot of dirt got on them

Any tire products containing oil or oil based substances should be avoided completely. This is per the tire manufacturers themselves. They will accelerate the aging process of the sidewall of the tire leading to premature cracking and potential failure.

I used to use the Zaino years ago and it was great, I'm using Poorboy's Bold N' Bright right now and am very happy. Sort of a low gloss look, water based, and doesn't sling off at all.
