I'm having a similar problem. I installed a Vias ipod unit to mine and used the factory harness. Everything worked fine till it started getting really hot here early last week(Arizona). The outside temp was about 90 but the radio wouldn't come on. After about 15 min of driving with a/c on it just started playing out of the blue. I thought the ipod was getting too hot sitting in the car all day but I started taking it out and putting it back in when I left work. Same issue continued. The frequency of the problem is increasing and is starting to affect the navigation because when the screen goes black you can't bring it back by pressing the Map button. I am of the opinion that if the unit goes out why replace with the same thing, why not upgrade to something that would has less of a chance to go out? Or rather cheaper to replace. This tech is old and needs updating anyways.
