Default Whine noise coming from engine when accelerating

When i accelerate there is a whine noise coming from the engine. it seems to be louder when he engine is cold. Is this a belt that needs to be changed or something? I know there isnt a timing belt so is there something else causing this?

could that your serpentine belt is slipping. Take some WD-40 and spray in on the belt while the engine in running and you hear the whining noise. If the sounds stops your belt is most likely stretched and slipping causing the noise.

It could be the supercharger... lol jk. Time to change your belt. Test it out first tho.

Could be your belt but I think the car has a bit of "whine" normally. Just depends how serious it is.

i think thats normal man, i've heard all 350s sounds like that. mine sounds like a supercharger too and i love it. its actually pretty loud before 4000rpm and when engine is cold. someone told me its because of the direct injection technology that toyota uses but don't quote me on that. whatever it is i like it

it could be that a cat has made a home out of your hood compartment too. many times cats will crawl up underneath the hood while your car is parked since it's usually warm, especially if you frequently park outside.

do you park your car in a garage or are you outside somewhere usually?

The best solution is to leave some cat food on one of the plastic parts near the engine (so the food doesn't just burn up on the engine) so the cat isn't hungry and thus won't whine and meow while you're driving. he's just hungry.

It's the timing chain that the IS350's use as opposed to the quiet timing belt that majority of cars use. The timing chain doesn't require replacing which is why Lexus went with it. They sacrificed noise for no replacement requirement which I don't like. The whine annoys the crap out of me.

wow oh wow, have you ever heard the noise of a timing chain? It is more of a rattle than a whine. Timing chains are also more costly and heavy in an engine, that is why a lot of manufacturers switched to belts, to save money, but then, you are stuck with big maintenance bill at around 100k. Mostly labour, so the dealer network is happy too.

To the OP, I vote for belt or vaccum leak. Belt is cheaper, and as a maintenance item should be done first.

hmm so what would be the symptoms of a bad belt or vaccum leak? cause i still think its normal but i am not sure now. i haven't notice any power loss or issues like that but may be i got used to the power. i am taking my car for a service on friday and i will tell them about the whine noise and see what they say. but if they fix it and i dont hear the whine i'll be pissed man i love that sound. all my friends think i have a supercharger installed

edit: and I don't know if you're trying to say I'm wrong about our cars having a timing chain but if you are then you my friend are the one that is wrong.

Correct, also most of the time the noise you get is from the chain guides breaking and then slaping around inside.

ISx50 have a timing chain, but they don't whine, they rattle and it only happens if there is something else seriously wrong with the car. Your post is full of **** in that Lexus somehow went with an inferior solution by putting a timing chain instead of a belt in the engine. There are legitimate design decisions that justifies one over the other and none is superior or inferior. Just different consequences down the road.
