Default Front Bumper repaint quote

Long story short a rock hit my TTE lip about 2 months ago and cracked it along the edge where the molding is... I received a quote yesterday at a collision place who's well known in the area and recommended by a co worker..

The quote came back at $594.00... includes everything and also he's going to use a more flexible agent for the molding process so the bumper can prevent cracking etc...

Does this seem about right? He also said he would do it fo $500 cash...

The downside is that the pearl white is a 3 stage so thats what makes it expensive...

Yeah I got front and back bumper for 160! Of course quality cost. I sure would not put that much on a car that old unless you are going to keep it a long time. On the other hand that's one or two months of car payments

its so expensive because its a custom color. i would try bargaining with him, but honestly it sounds about right (if the shop is gonna do everything CORRECTLY, i.e. dupox, primer, etc.)

+1.. if they're doing both pieces and fixing the molding at the same time, it's a fair price, with the quality paint job. Do it right, take pride in your ride and don't cheap out!

hmmm $500+ to paint the bumper and the lip is to much how bad is the damage? if its just a crack and its fiberglass it shouldn't cost no more than $400-$450 at least here in cali using PPG paint. if its a candy paint or special color i can see it costing but stock color with paint code $400-$450 and thats on the high side. shop around at a few places see if they will give you a guarantee on the work and the paint

My bumper (onyx) was $370 with deep scrapes, scuffs and rock chips, but my homie owns the shop.

TMF - There are alot of places that may do it for much less, but this is specific to each and every town in the USA, so local referrals are the best route to go as opposed to what you see happening in other states. Your not comparing national retail store prices on a TV, your looking at what one mans/shops quality of work/reputation in a local area is worth compared to the other available local places that directly compete. I wouldn't put to much comparison into what a shop in say California or Kentucky may charge as your in Florida and prices can vary greatly.

There are places that will charge a ton and do crappy work as well, so it can be difficult to judge value of work without seeing prior work or other happy customers.

Color can make huge difference in price. And that's just a re-spray, TMF is having the damage repaired and lip remolded.

Yes it does.

Of course there are lots of places that will roll it in tape some **** up with newspapers and respray it, but you get what you pay for. And I can spot those jobs a mile away, I see them all the time on the Donks driving around here. Shiny as **** coming at ya, but no prep work, paint right over rust, chipped edges, emblems door moldings and keylocks not removed when painted just taped up, old color showing along the tape lines on windsheild gaskets, lights, latches, side moldings, and overspray all in the wheel wells, on the radiator, exhaust, and in the engine bay.... awesome.

Any REAL paint job in a downdraft booth, with 100% proper prepwork, parts removed and reinstalled not just taped over, and high quality materials is $2000+, even higher if you are jambing it out or changing colors then you can easily get into the $5k range. There can be 40+ man hours to diassemble, prep, paint, reassemble, wetsand and buff. For a shop to stay in business there is no way you can get a real paint job on a whole car done right for any less than $2k~ish starting. If using high end paint, reducer, clear, etc it can easily be $600+ for materials only, not to mention all the other shop supplies used up.

I sure hope they aren't using fiberglass on an abs bumper... Yeah some ghetto shops will do it but there are proper products to do such work right ad remain flexible and 3M **** ain't cheap by any means and neither is shop time. If this is a real shop with a good body guy, a real paint booth, all high end paint media, and using the right adhesives to mold the bumper then $500 is not out of the realm of good pricing at all. Take away any of that and yeah the price should be coming down.

THe TTE lip is poly urethane with pearl being a 3 stage paint... I'm going to get another quote at another local shop and really see if the quotes are comparable. From your guys responses it sounds like i'm in the right ballpark. The damage isn't really that bad only if your up close and its pointed out. You can definitely see the hole from the rock and a few areas of the crack. Then again i don't want to get any worse... i plan on keeping this car so really I'm ok with spending the money.

The collison place has two new $150k paint booths. Plus the painter seemed to know what he was talking about. Materials was almost $100 but its the labor that kills the price lol.

thanks Mike for the response... Looking at 2 to 3 day turn around time.. 3 days max..
