Default 95 SC300 Alternator replacement?

How hard is this to change out yourself? How much does the part cost. If I took it into a shop to get it replaced how much would it cost? I am pretty good at working with cars jsut wondering if this would be hard to do or not.

I have '93 sc400 so i'm not sure if it's the same setup but i changed mine not too long ago and i can honestly say it wasn't that hard at all. it took b/w 1-2 hours. suprisingly it didnt cost too much. My dad went to discount auto parts and bought one for 190 something and they bought back the broken one for like 70 dollars or some odd amount.

Default SC300 Alternator amp rating?

I have a 92 SC300, and close to a 3000watt max system being installed in about a week. The only electrical upgrades I planned, was a Deep cycle battery + upgraded "big 3" Anyone know how many Amps our alternators put out? I know I should have planned a upgraded ALT before I bought all these parts, but driving with no CD player makes me crazy.. Thanks in advance

If I remember correctly the 5speed puts out 85 and the auto puts out 90 amps.

Smile Alternator rebuilt

Hi guys,

Just wanted to share this. I had my alternator replaced a couple of years ago because that stupid power steering pump was leaking into that thing. Anyway, for the last couple of weeks while I am driving, the red battery indicator in the dash start flashing and my headlight will blank like crazy. So I thought, oh shxt, a new alternator again at $450.00 plus labor. So I said screw that I took it into a small battery shop in Santa Rosa, CA and the guy rebuilt it a $135.00 plus $80 for installation labor, so I got off with only a $220 repair.
For the last couple of days, the battery indicator has not lit up and the car ran fine. I am happy that the deal was great.

So have you taken care of the PS pump problem, or are you just waiting for it to happen again?

The Alt's can be rebuilt for a higher amperage to better meet electrical needs- just ask your local alt shop for details. This is especially nice if you have a decent sound system, as the stock alt is pretty well at capacity to begin with.

Man, only If I knew that the local shop could rebuild the alternator to higher specs before I bought PHR's alternator upgrade.
